Friday, March 13 turns out to be special evening at
the Metropolitan Opera. Philip Webb makes surprise Met debut as
Manrico in "Il Trovatore". At intermission between acts II and
III, Philip was informed that Marcelo Alvarez was unable to continue
performing. With twenty minutes to spare, Philip was put in
make-up, costume and reviewed sections with Maestro Gianandrea Noseda.
Soon he was on the stage and in costume, for the first time. The
performance was a big success, with the audience on their feet at the
end of the night, cameras flashing and confetti being thrown at the
stage! Bravo! Philip returned on,
March 16, to sing Manrico at the Metropolitan Opera! |
